  2. I read Mr. Tao's article in a magazine.

What Mr. Tao said is totally wrong and unpatriotic if one interprets his words literally and does not acknowledge the shortcomings of the the Chinese people or likewise the people in some underdeveloped and under-civilized countries. Arrogance is one of the problems for the Chinese in general.

How much national treasure in China had been destroyed during the various brutal and ill-conceived political movements launched during the Mao Era. Was it not shameful?

Since and despite the Industrial Revolution in the West in 17th Century, China had closed her eyes and ears to western advancement of technologies, and still falsely bragged about her ancient Four Big Inventions without any idea of how to improve those inventions to much more powerful and sophisticated uses. The invasion of China by the Eight Western Armies was to be condemned. However, the silver lining was that China had been shaken awake to the need of modernization. With this idea in mind, Dr. Sun brought in a new China.

Paying compliments to the West where compliments are due is a humble acknowledgment that improvement is necessary and that efforts should be made to catch up. Undeniably, China has been stealing, copying and learning the Western technologies and assimilating some Western culture into her own to her benefit.

Mr. Tao satirically put down some facts for the readers to read between his lines. Not all readers can do that.

  3. Hi David,

I echo your view and comment on what sort of person Tao is.

It is not a surprise, he is a typical colonial product. Arrogance

is the only impression I've got from reading all his articles.

Have not read much of your travelling diariy lately. Wonder

where you and Violet have been to in the last years or so.

    Regards,

    Willy

  5. Hi David,

  6. Well, I don't read the MingPao Monthly and hardly read his articles on newspapers or listen to his radio programmes. I don't find his acute or offensive comments of particular interest at all.

To make a name of oneself or to earn a living, publishing strange comments every now and then, albeit silly, could be one of the many ploys used.

    Best Regards
