在意大利旅遊，到處都能看到古跡，很多還是完整無缺的。縱非如此，意國人也會珍之重之。可修補的便修補，使它回復本來面目。不可修補的，無論是一磚一瓦都會好好保存。
羅馬和威尼斯一樣，整座城市都是由舊建築組成的。縱使有新建的也會照著傳統的風格和形式去設計，盡量保持調和，統一。走上羅馬威尼斯廣場(Piazza Venezia)的觀景台可俯覧全巿的容貌：由東至西，由南至北，由近至遠，呈現在眼前的猶如一幅經過精心設計的巨大畫作，使人驚嘆不已。登上威尼斯聖馬哥廣場(Piazza San Marco)的高塔也可把整座水城盡收眼底，美不勝收。這種印象使人過目難忘。
在其他歐洲大城市如倫敦和巴黎，摩天大樓到處可見。新舊參差不齊，破壞了調和與統一。在羅馬便看不見這種情況，因為意國人不會為了滿足人口增長而濫建，或為了商業利益而改變城市的現狀。這便是由他們的遠見、修養、文明和品味所決定的取捨原則。一個來過意大利的朋友對我說：意國是一座人類最大，收藏最豐富的文明博物館，要好好去欣賞它。
其實到意大利旅遊何止於觀賞它的文化遺產。意大利的現代藝術、工藝和工業也豐富得不得了，如繪畫、雕塑、服裝、皮鞋、音樂、電影、建築、室內設計、家具、汽車⋯⋯不勝枚舉。名店街的窗櫥擺設，畫廊的展品便使你目不睱接。還有那些打扮得花枝招展的美人兒，也令人眼花潦亂。意大利人不論男女都喜歡打扮入時，處處追求品味。
意大利的烹調也十分出色，能保持原汁原味。意大利的酒也馳名於世，和帶有地方風味的火腿、乾肉，香腸配合得天衣無縫。來到意大利，我暫時不再想吃中國菜。

The whole Italy is a museum. Italy is beautiful, from Sicily to Milan, from food to women.
ReplyDeleteSilvio Belusconi once said: “Foreigners committed crime on raping because our Italian women are beautiful.”
Personally I myself love Italian food the most. Our daughter and son-in-law too. They spent holidays in Italy more than in other countries. Our son-in-law August spent one year scholarship in Florence. So you can imagine the “essence” of Italy. I can imagine why you love Italian cuisine.

However, I have been to Paris quite a few times due to business needs. In one such trips re Paris properties the officials proudly told us that the whole Paris city proper has been kept to its original flavour. No skyscrapers are allowed, all building needs to rebuild in its old and ancient forms, no flyovers are allowed although they have built several underpass to help the traffic.
All the new skyscrapers were built in a new area. Like the Total corporate building we visited (talking joint venture with them then) is situated in that area.
So, not like London, Paris did preserve well their own city. The old city proper is like a peice of old art.
